And Now For Something Completely Different - May 2004

Mother's Day Ideas

by LuluJones

Everyone has a mother, and whether yours is around today or not, the month of May is a reminder to really acknowledge her and appreciate her. Now is the time to show her how much you love her. Of course, you should try to do that more often than every May!

If you have mixed feelings about your mom, maybe it’s time to come to terms with your emotions. After all, do you want to spend the rest of your life feeling that way about her? Maybe she wasn't the most perfect mom that ever lived but face it, if it weren’t for her, you wouldn’t be here right now.

If your mother is no longer here, you can still remember her by showing other mothers your gratitude. How can you show a mother how much you love and cherish her? Let me count the ways…

  • Visit her. If that’s not possible, definitely call her!
  • Personally craft something for her: art objects like a sculpture, jewelry, paintings, drawings, cards, picture frame, memory books, photo albums, pottery (there are many places to paint pottery. Just do a local search.)
  • Cook her favorite meal. Not a great cook? Find a great recipe and just follow it exactly.
  • Write a poem about her.
  • Compose a song for her if possible. (Especially those of you that have GarageBand!)
  • Sing a song to her.

    Mother's Day is May 9th

  • Take a photograph of something she’d like and frame it for her.
  • Play music for her if you play an instrument.
  • Create a bouquet of flowers that you’ve arranged yourself.
  • Make a video dedicated to her. Get the family and her friends to say on camera how special she is.
  • Knit her a sweater or a scarf, make a dress or blouse or shirt or socks or whatever you’d like.
  • If she has a computer, give her a digital slide show of family photos.
  • Make her a compilation CD of her favorite music.
  • Bake her a cake and decorate it yourself.
  • Take her to a movie she’d love or a play or musical she’d be interested in.
  • If she likes football or tennis, take her to a live match.
  • Take her on a trip or offer her a trip for 2 to somewhere she’s always wanted to visit.
  • Treat her to a luxurious Spa Day or weekend.
  • If she loves gardening and gardens, take her to a garden show.
  • Throw a party for her. Maybe even a surprise Mother’s Day party.
  • Make her a gift basket filled with her favorite things.
  • Take her to a concert she’d enjoy.
  • Invite her to her favorite restaurant.
